  • New to the board... KTP's from Toronto, ON, Canada

TLDR: Newbie here, originally on Salomon Snowblades and Salomon Verse boots (size 28.5), now own used KTP (2013 edition) with Receptor bindings, and needing new boots

Hey all... Seems like this forum is partially active. Tried skimming through a lot of the posts (sticky), but a lot seem outdated or missing videos/photos because they're old... I also came across "The Skiboard Connection" group on Facebook.

Despite that, hello from Toronto, ON, Canada. Many years ago (in my early 20s), I used to ride on the good ol' Salomon Snowblades for maybe five years. I'm surprised I never broke them now knowing what they're made of (thanks to info on this board) and my weight/height.

Fast forward to 20 years later and I miss being on the slopes and want to get back into it. I had heard of skiboards before and looked into them vaguely back in the day. But, an opportunity presented itself to buy a used set of 2013 KTP edition (with rubber risers), for a fair price I think compared to what new stuff runs... Now I need update my boots though because they way too snug from when I was younger (Salomon Verse).

Without hunting through all of the topics in each area, maybe someone could quickly answer:
    • Taking care of the edges, some of the sides seem a little rough... I saw one post that mentioned you could file them so they don't chip as easily, but I don't feel comfortable doing that just yet.
    • Adjusting the bindings for new boots... I'll have to deal with this hurdle once I get sized for new boots.
    • Waxing I've read the thread on that and also viewed this video online - Talong Sei - RVL8 Skiboards Review - My background & season prep!
Ontario doesn't have a lot of hills. My local one is Glen Eden Ski Hill, or if I go 1.5 hours away we have Blue Mountain.

Looking forward to connecting with people.

Hi Markdub, Welcome! You are right about that this forum is not as active as it once was. The Facebook site is more active, but I still think that an online site such as this has some advantages over the Facebook site in preserving searchable threads about equipment , technique , gear reviews etc etc. Unfortunately many of us used Photobucket to post photos on the older posts which was supposed to be a free service , but then Photobucket started charging a monthly fee to host photos and many of us chose not to pay the fee which is why the photos got lost on older posts 2/ also many of us used Youtube to post videos on our older posts but You tube some years ago changed the URL links on many of their older videos which is why you will see many of the older video links broken. The text on the older posts is still useful however even if some the videos and pictures have been lost.
    As to your questions :
1/ the chipping of edges on the boards is cosmetic and not really an issue . You can chamfer the edges. Here is a discussion for reference

2/adjusting receptor bindings to a new boot is pretty simple as there are multiple ridges on the binding allowing the binding to be adjusted just right . By the way when looking for new boots there are certain new boots that do not work well with the receptor binding . see here

Let us know if you have any other questions.

This is SUPER helpful. I don't want to buy something to then have to return it.

Ya, seems that video I linked had a good how-to tutorial for waxing. And everything else in the video is great knowledge all around.
