Binding Height and notes on design

One of the big issues with AT bindings and the use of risers on skiboards is that they are already high off the deck when direct mounted to skiboards and the added height by a riser can cause the rider to be uncomfortably high off the deck .
The standard Spruce riser is an innovative solution that can be used on all skiboards even very short and flexible ones because it causes the binding and the ends of the riser to be high off the deck , but because of it's height was unsuitable to be used with AT bindings . Basically what Jeff did in designing the Spruce AT binding riser is to turn a regular riser up side down , preserving all the rigidity of the regular riser and then dropping it low to the deck . Unfortunately in doing so we couldn't really figure out a way to make a universal solution to work with all skiboards but the length of the Sherpa and it's quite rigid construction really allows a low rise tray riser to work very well even in the set back inserts. I measured the height above of the board at the toe of the the Spruce /Ambition AT binding/riser combo and it is 45mm which is very similar to the height of the Standard Spruce riser/binding combos so folks getting on the new Spruce AT binding system will feel right at home .

      Adjustable Binding Position

The real cool thing about the Spruce Sherpa and the new Spruce AT binding riser , is that it allows adjustment between center mount and rear mount depending on the condition . In previous posts I have explained that direct mounting skiboards with bar type alpine touring bindings with any significant set back is impossible because the short length of skiboards does not give enough depth out back to allow adequate screw penetration on the rear piece of the long foot print of alpine touring bindings. The ability of the backcountry skiboarder to place his AT binding in the rear inserts of his Sherpa with the new Spruce AT riser makes all the difference in riding deep heavy powder and crust .
