I did use the hdpe plastic piece with tech toe piece and receptor heel pice and bale in version 1. To get the receptor heel to match the height of the boot in the front pins I put a 1/2 inch hdpe spacer between baseplate and receptor heel.
Note that in this set up the front toe does not release. In a tech binding the front toe releases laterally only if the heel first twists and releases laterally, kind of the reverse of a regular downhill release binding.
