  • HELP... Need to find a "Resort"

I skiboard and my wife doesn't. I like going on vacation, so does my wife... I love East Coast skiing.... ummm

In all seriousness, We are from PA. I ski and my wife doesn't. I love being on the East Coast and within a few hours of driving I can be at some great resorts, however, I want to see a "real" mountain. We have some beautiful and amazing resorts here on the East Coast, but frankly I want to see the Colorado's, or West Coast. I don't like doing things without my wife and now our 8 month old son. What I am looking for is somewhere we can all go. Id like somewhere we can go for a few days that I can ski and they can enjoy an indoor waterpark. We have a few places here on the East, but like I said, I want to see something different.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

One of the few places were there are multiple ski resorts right next to a large metropolitan city is Salt Lake. It gives the rare opportunity for you to ski, and the family to spend a day off the slopes with plenty of activities to choose from.
    Just these, nothing else !

The Montbleu Casino hotel in South Lake Tahoe is within walking distance of the Heavenly Gondola and has a very nice indoor Lagoon style swimming pool that was a hit with my kids when they were young . The Heavenly base area around the Gondola has an ice skating rink , restuarants , shops , an ice skating rink and movie theater. The lake is beautiful . There is a paddlewheel type big boat that runs trips even in winter across the lake to beautiful emerald bay .

mvhoffman Hint, hint. Go to Shredfest 2022 (Hopefully COVID won't screw that up)

Bucket list Western areas are Whistler, SLC and Tahoe.

The Whistler experience is unbelievable, especially if you can drive up the coast a ways from Vancouver. The Whistler village is an adult Disneyland of boutique shops and bars. Probably not much fun for little ones.

The best skiing in SLC is on the West side of the mountain at the resorts in the Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons. Park City is on the East side of the mountain and attracts more of the tourist crowd. The epicly deep super dry fluffy champaign powder is on the West side of the mountain Alta/Brighton/Solitude/etc. SLC has a great bus system that runs all the way from SLC and Sandy up to all the canyon resorts. The biggest drawback would be the travel time up and down to the resorts.

In South Lake Tahoe I really enjoy staying at https://www.tahoeresorthotel.com . You would be within easy walking distance of the Heavenly gondola and your bride can find lots of things to do. At the top of the gondola they have a pretty cool tube park she may be interested in to make the gondola ride itself worthwhile. A lot of people ride the gondola just for the world class experience.

well my decision/location may have just gotten a little bit easier. I completely forgot about our vacation club. We have a vacation club program with Sundance Vacations (we love it and use it for Florida/Disney multiple times a year) and they have properties in Colorado, Utah, and Tahoe. I will have to check them out and see what the resorts offer
