  • New Rockered Board

Hey everyone, trying to see how much interest is out there for a ~100cm, rockered, very stiff, board that is comparable to the Blunt XL in shape and size, but built like a tank to withstand park use and very aggressive riding styles.

    What are your thoughts???

Assuming you mean KTPs but they aren’t rockered and not as wide

I was trying to get at KTRockered's, half-jokingly. Like the RC to the regular Condor, except RKTP doesn't quite roll off the tongue

Why not just ride KTPs in the park? I don't see what you're really gaining from the rocker in that type of terrain. The Blunt XL and KTP are so similar that it seems unnecessary to make something in between.

I ride both. I like the lack of flex in the KTP for ice, chop, park and even variable conditions. The Blunt XLs really shine in powder and tight trees, but the softer flex can make them more difficult to ride in conditions where the KTPs dominate.

                New Rockered Board

Mostly because I prefer the rocker and am currently riding the XLs through everything anyway. I don’t want to go to the parking lot to switch boards out to go to the park, a single run usually consists of groomers, to trees, to park, to lift, so having a dedicated board for one thing and not the other is a waste.

Have you tried the Spliffs? They are not the length you are looking for but I found them a very capable "jack of all trades" skiboard for top to bottom riding in CO. They worked well conditions where I would roll through light powder at the top of mountain, hit the trees or park mid-mountain, and bust through ice and crud lower down on the hill, as temps warm the hill up in the valley, before hopping on the lift and repeating the process.

As far as the RVL8 rockered line-up goes they are pretty beefy. Not a full "tank" KTP build but certainly stiffer than the RCs and SIIs. You get a board built to handle the park that still has a little pop with the camber underfoot then mixes in rocker for powder, trees, and crud busting. The only thing I wish the Spliffs had is a setback binding inserts.
                  Boards:
2016 Spruce tuned Head Jr. Caddys - 131cm
                  2013 Spruce "CTS" 120s
                  2010 Spruce "Yellow/Red" 120s
                  2018 Spruce "CTS" Crossbows - 115cm
                  2016 RVL8 Spliffs - 109cm
                  2008 RVL8 Revolt "City" - 105cm
                  2017 RVL8 Sticky Icky Icky - 104cm
                  2011 Defiance Blades - 101cm

Thanks for the reply, but I’m very familiar with the RVL8 lineup. I’ve ridden Revolts, BWPs, spliffs, RCs, DLPs, and blunts so I know exactly what I’m looking for. It appears there is not much interest in the kind of setup I’m looking for so I’ve actually setup a meeting with a local ski maker in CO who wants to make them. If anyone is interested from this point on just send me a message and I can get you in on the deal.

Most park skis have a little rocker to help stop the tips from catching on rails. I presume the same would be true for a rocketed skiboard? I know a few folks had fun on the original Blunts in the park, I was hoping someone would try out the Ickys as well.
                      Just these, nothing else !

It is all personal taste. I go to the park with whatever I happened to have on my feet and just do what is best and fun with those boards. I avoid ground tricks on DLPs because they catch on rotation, and I don't do jumps on XLs because my balance just isn't that great on landings. A single pair of boards can't excel in every terrain or style, but they could be good enough most of the time.

If you haven't tried Stickys, do. I spent a week on them late last season including a fair bit in the park. Great all-around board.

Having ridden all these boards before also, and having ridden the '96 lines and other company's fat/short boards, I feel as though I will be working with you, Alan. I have spliffs, but only as backups, I wanted to originally try them out first year, but didn't like them. I have been unfortunately riding them ever since, since XL's do not hold up anymore. Something Blunt or Blunt XL style is the only way to go, they just need to be thicker. I do not understand the appeal of the rocker/camber/rocker thing, and probably never will, it isn't comfortable, too much engaged/not engaged style of riding, park or powder.

I do put boards through their paces, so that is why I need something that can survive. I do not ride park daily, so I think the "park riding" excuse is not necessarily valid. Funny story though, Bluewing had the same issue on original Blunts back when they first came out too, and he doesn't ride park.

If you would, please explain this statement. Not comfortable in what way? Too much engaged/not engaged, say what? I've had to be engaged in every set of boards I have ridden. That's just the nature of snow sliding in general.

Not comfortable in that there was no in between. You are going fast, or completely stopping. They are like a stage 3 clutch in a car, you cant ride the clutch. You are going down, or stopping. Maybe my use of engaged wasnt proper here.

Simply rockered boards are 1000 times more playful, in my opinion, and you get that surfy feeling all day. That was my appeal to the initial Blunts, and I took them everywhere on any mtn, any conditions.
