  • What's on your skiboarding bucket list?

The forum is dead, as happens in the Northern Hemisphere's Summer, so for those of us lunatics and die-hards still hanging around, here is a summer discussion topic:

WHAT SKIBOARDING LOCATION IS ON THE TOP OF YOUR BUCKET LIST??

In a few recent posts we have mentioned Chile, New Zealand, and some guys just want to get summer over with and get out on the mountain again. But where is the one place that you have never been to that you must ride before you leave this world for the big ski resort in the sky?

I was discussing this with a buddy that snowboards earlier in the week and he suggested Mt. Etna in Italy. He got the idea after watching the Salomon Freeski TV video below. It looks cool and is on my list. So what's on your list?

There are several spots in the U.S. that I need to hit before worrying about reaching other countries. I'd like to hit all the resorts in Colorado. I want to visit Jackson Hole and Sun Valley along with a few others in that region. I also would love to make it to Alaska and British Columbia some day.

So many places to visit, so little time and funds.

That Mt Etna looks inviting, but I'd prefer no eruption.

I'd like to go anywhere on an extended tour (think Sempai's Big Adventure) but if I had to choose one place, I think I'd pick Niseko, Hokkaido. Powder, powder, powder, powder....
Sticky Icky Ickys (I think I'm in love )
Spruce 120's (they served me well)

Not so much a bucket list as a to-do list (as i dont plan on kicking the bucket for a long time), to be added to/amended as required.

Mt Asahidake summit, Asahidake-Kurodake traverse (Hokkaido, Japan)
              Mt Yotei summit (Hokkaido, Japan)
Craigieburn range traverse (South Island, New Zealand)
              Sierra high route (California)
              Alps haute route (France/Switzerland)

Excellent choice. Niseko made it to my daughter's wishlist after she first saw the video below. It's near the top of my list. I only know one person with first hand experience. He says the pow is other worldly and ruined powder skiing for him everywhere else.

Niseko - the best ski resort in Australia.

You'll understand once you get there.

Kinda like Beaver Creek, CO is the best ski resort in Texas (at least in the Spring)?

                        Exactly!

Niseko's still got great snow. But its now very overcrowded and overrun. It's a nice place to introduce yourself to skiing in Japan for sure - if you don't mind standing in the 30 min lift line to fight for fresh(ish) tracks with a billion others, then do the same at the end of the day for dinner at the 5 restaurants remaining in town that hasn't been turned into condos. Ooo how I long for the old, peaceful Niseko of years gone by... grumble grumble...

My point is, there are still lots of other places there with just as good or even better snow/terrain/atmosphere that remain off the radar. Niseko's just one good site amongst many.

                        Mahatma's old hangout, for instance...

My bucket list: I've got to get to shredfest in the next couple of years, I haven't Skiied in America yet. Kite skiing the Pisa range in NZ around snow farm with good snow cover, we were there once in a poor snow season. And heli skiing just once anywhere.
My wife and myself skiied Asahidake earlier this year and it was great. Just one cable car to about half way up the mountain (the tallest mountain in Hokkaido) then you have the whole mountain to explore. Most people there either had skins or snow shoes as well as whatever they chose to slide down on. We stayed in Asahikawa (the main city for this area, which has one of the most visited zoos for all of Japan) and skiied most days at Kamui which is now my favourite ski resort in Japan. Awesome tree skiing, off piste powder skiing and well groomed steep and fast on piste trails. Both Kamui and Asahidake are about 30 to 40 minutes drive from Asahikawa.

I heard about this place before at UCPA. Looks incredible - Its now on my list.

They do seem to have a thing against snowblades though... (at 1:15)

Otherwise, the vibe and atmosphere seems perfect!
