  • My first pair of skiboard

Hi, i'm new here. I'm from Italy.
I ve used for years Salomon's Snowblade and a pair of Head skiboards with release bindings.
I'm looking for this model http://www.skiboardsonline.com/p/rvl8RCcondor12.html (i know it's an old one but i love the theme).
There is a way to have them?
My other question is about the bindings. I'm very curious on soft bindings (like snowboard). which is the difference?
    Thx

    Luca

Luca - welcome to the forum!

The Rockered Condors you want are no longer produced with that graphic. It is the same board as http://www.skiboardsonline.com/p/rvl...dcondor13.html. If the current graphic doesn't appeal to you, then you will have to keep your eye out for some used Rockered Condors with the "cartoon" graphic. People put gear up for sale at http://www.skiboardsonline.com/forum...splay.php?f=11. You can set an email notification on that forum section so you will get notified when a new post is made. To do that go to that forum page and under the page navigation in the upper right, click Forum Tools and select "Subscribe to this Forum".

I see in your post you say "I ve used for years Salomon's Snowblade and a pair of Head skiboards with release bindings." A lot of peole on this forum started on those boards. Not sure what your skiing/riding background is but the Rockered Condors are going to be very different from the boards you have been riding. Not saying they will not work for you just pointing out the RCs are way different. Here is a good thread on the early days of the Rockered Condors and viewpoints on them: http://www.skiboardsonline.com/forum...ad.php?t=12624.

You also asked: "My other question is about the bindings. I'm very curious on soft bindings (like snowboard). which is the difference?" There have been various ways to connect snowboard bindings to boards you a rider can use snowboard boots (the so-called "soft boot set-up). The latest snowboard binding set-up is http://www.skiboardsonline.com/p/simscipher.html. This is getting good initial feedback from people using it. Obvious difference is that the snowboard bindings don't release in the event of a fall. Scribbler, a forum member, has successfully mounted the Miller Z interface release snowboard binding but this is a one-off project he has been working on. That Miller Z interface is not made anymore but might be available through eBay or other online auction type sites. You need really stiff snowboard boots (7 or greater on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being stiffest). Again, using a snowboard binding on a board very different from what you have been riding.

I am not sure what type of conditions you ride in but some other boards to consider:

--Blunts - http://www.skiboardsonline.com/p/rvl8blunt14.html - these are currently sold out but we are hoping they come back in stock this season. I have been riding these as have numerous other people and these are really fantastic boards. The pure essence of skiboarding.

--Revolt Trees - http://www.skiboardsonline.com/p/rvl8_revolttrees.html - suggest these because the 105cm length is a nice step up from Heads and Salomons but not so much of a stet up that it is a huge learning curve for many people. Also, these now come in 2 flexes: soft to medium and medium to stiff. Numerous people have found the medium to stiff flex to be a bit too stiff if you are not a park rider. Quite a few people seem to like the softer flexing boards, especially just for general riding.

    Hope this helps.

Boards ridden, some owned: Sherpas, Spruce 120 "STS", Blunts, DS110 custom prototypes, Rockered Condors, Revolts, DLPs, Summit Custom 110s, Summit Marauders, Head 94s, Raptor prototypes, Osprey prototypes.

I ve another question.. What about the KTP as first pair of skiboards?
I see the lenght is only 7cm more than the head, i m using now.
        Thank you all

Luca - the KTPs are very good boards that many people like. These are for more aggressive riders in general. It seems that the KTPs like to be "driven" to perform at their best. Again, not knowing your background it is hard to tell how well you would take to them, but they are a big step up from the Salomons and Heads you have been riding. Not saying you could not adjust to them - it just might take a few times out before you get the hang of them. The KTPs are nice in that they have an extra set of inserts so you can set the bindings back for use in deeper and/or softer snow.

Welcome Luca, you're going to enjoy getting away from chattering snowblades. Have fun finding you're perfect ride. It my help the guys here with their suggestions if they knew your height, weight and what kind of skiing you like/do most such as groomers, off-piste, powder or park.

I think the extra set of inserts on my ktp's would be great if I had any powder to ride. But I have never used them here on the east coast.

As for the width that everyone is concerned about... Here's what I have found...

At 5'10 almost 250 pounds... I have no issue with the width. I get them up on edge without an issue. If the snow is nice and soft they will carve trenches. I guess someone who was short and weighed less would feel the width. I don't . Although when I ride my bwp's they feel very skinny to me and very easy to throw around. They are lots of fun on the groomers.

Guess it all depends on conditions your riding on as well as your height and weight.

              Never ridden revolts but I
Encourage all new riders to try them as they seem to be the best middle
              Ground of the whole
              Line up!

I'm gonna get 45 days on the mountain this year if it kills me!
              33 down, 12 to go!

The Revolts and KTP's are the two best all-mountain boards that I've ridden. The KTP's are a stiffer flex, so they do take a bit more input to get the full performance out of them. If you are a bigger rider though, they are a great option. They are also a great prep for the Condors. The Rockered Condors are really easy to ride, but the originals are beasts, with a lot of effective edge and surface area compared to other boards.
RVL8 Condors - The Flex will be with me, always...until I break them

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming... "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!!"

It all depends on how you ride them. I'm 5'7" and 145lbs and I rode the KTPs no problem. Now I ride the Condors which are even wider and I love them. On top of that, I'm on the east coast (of the US) so most of my riding is done on ice and hardpack. The KTPs didn't hold a great edge for me on ice but I think that was because they were so stiff that I couldn't decamber them properly on ice without sliding out. The wider Condors hold a great edge on ice for me because I can decamber them properly and cause the entire edge to engage. It's more about the stiffness than the width I think.
