This is what's waiting for me at the mountain today, I'm pumped! Wachusett never gets powder! That being said, when i get there i want maximum time on the slopes. I have KTP's and i was wondering if i should set my bindings back. I know the setback option is for powder so technically its an obvious decision, but I've heard that Kirk rides them center mounted in all conditions. I'm only about 140 pounds, so is the setback necessary or will leaning be enough? I like the feel of riding center mounted better so if i will still get enough float with the bindings in the center i would prefer to do that.

It's about leg strength. Ridig center mounted takes a toll, but if your legs are conditioned well you'll have no problem riding centered.
Kirk rode in the Tahoe powder at SFIII set back when we were all dropping the cliffs at Christmas Valley. Most of the team was set back. A large preference for many non-release riders on here is to set back. I myself prefer centered. Partly because I'm stubborn and lazy, though.I'm a snollerblader.
Go big or go home.

Every skiboard and skiboarder is different and I agree with Valmorel experiment and find out what is best for you ... for the KTP in particular , on firm snow , I only wanted to be center mount and hated the feel of the board rear set .. just didn't feel right at all to me , but in pow and soft snow ... 100% I preferred to be in the rear inserts . It was not just a float thing but the fact that on the short KTP I had more stability and less tendency to face plant in chopped up variable soft snow riding from the back then from the center position . The faster you go the more things smooth out ... I have seen Kirk ride those KTPs and he rides uber fast and way faster then I do in the same variable snow , so maybe that helps smooth things out .. but for my speed rear mount made a huge difference in being able to avoid the dreaded face plant LOL ... the huge advantage of the KTP vs any other skiboard is how easy it is to move from center to rear mount ... on other skiboards I had to adjust my non release bindings foot and heel plates on the riser which is a more difficult undertakingBoards :

Just got back from a great powder day at the mountain, had tons of fun. I didn't see any of the posts before I left, but i ended up just keeping them center mounted because i thought it would fit my riding style better. The conditions were very powdery and although i did miss out on the fresh stuff, when i got there i found lots of big soft powder bumps everywhere. Riding center mounted certainly took lots of energy but i was having so much fun carving through and blasting over the bumps i didnt even consider stopping to set them back. It was a bit of a challenge at times but i really loved how the boards performed center mounted. I rode them aggressively and had to pay attention to my lean and absorb lots of bumps with my legs but it was so much fun it was worth it. I am exhausted now though
