  • Learning to do Moguls - Best Learning Resources

I want to learn how to do moguls. No sense avoiding them and other similar conditions. So, I am going to embrace the bumps. Now, I just need some help in finding the best mogul learning resources. Sure, I know how to use Google and could spend a lot of time weeding through crap to find a few nuggets, but I thought the community might help me out by sharing the resources you have used and found most helpful. I am a "high context" type person so I like to understand the background (interpret that as reading) and then learn visually (interpret that as videos and photos).

I would appreciate you sharing resources you have found helpful. I am hoping to maybe get some pointers from some mogul masters at Shredfest and would consider doing a private lesson at a local resort (with the right instructor). Before either of those though, I would like to do some learning on my own and try some tamer mogul runs on my own. My local resort has started 1 bump run and Elk Mountain, my favorite place in PA, current has 4 full and 1 partial mogul runs so a good part of that mountain is bumps (they have a total of 27 runs).

    Thanks

I would suggest the info on the Bumps for Boomers website.

      http://www.bumpsforboomers.com/mogul...iing-technique

These are the "rebels" in Aspen that use skiboards to teach mogul skiing to baby boomers. While their target audience is older skiers the techniques work for everyone and changed the way I approach the bumps. I am still learning but their approach to control and technique have moved me to a fear of moguls to confidence that I can maintain control throughout my run.

Bumps for Boomers also does a weekly "tips" email that gives you things to think about and work on while you are on the mountain each week.

I like to haul as fast as I can into moguls and just pump back and forth. Every now and then I like to launch a few moguls into a transition and keep the flow.

I also found these Warren Smith videos that I found helpful. A good bit of the footage is not actually in the moguls, but instead shows a few key techniques on a groomed run so you can see the technique clearly. The point is also made to practice a few key skills on a groomed run and when you have become proficient in the technique then head into the moguls with the right skills. I got these from a UK Telegraph site and couldn't get a valid embed code so couldn't embed the video.
