I would like to withdraw £900 ($1400) from this account please.

Of course not, this is a bank, not a furniture store, this is what you do.
Oh well, sorry sir, we only keep a limited amount of cash on hand, and therefore only allow a maximum of £500 to be withdrawn at any one time, its the rules.
Stunned silence followed by: OK, can I withdraw the 500, plus another 400 from account B

So you DO have enough cash on hand to allow me to leave here with £900 then, you are just going to make it bloody awkward?
At this point, relations deteriorated somewhat, but I DID get my £900. As Mahatma would say: 'All in all, I think it went well'
