Replacing old release bindings on spruce risers

Hey all, been a minute! I recently got new boots, so I took my gear to REI for a binding adjustment and function check with the boots, only to be told my bindings (Roxy, bought years ago from SBOL mounted on Spruce risers) are no longer indemnified and the shop can't work on them. They've gotta be at least 10 yrs old and probably should be replaced anyway.

maybe a dumb question, but can any release bindings be used on the Spruce risers? As far as i can tell my risers are still in good shape, so i don't see a need to spend extra on replacing them too. Any recommendations? I am thinking about the Tyrolia TX10s.

I am 5'3" and have slapdashes and tanshos that i swap the bindings between. Thinking about the SIIs this year, but need to sort the bindings out first! Casual rider, i can ski most anything but prefer groomed runs and am quite happy "cruising blues" all day with a few diamonds thrown in for fun. No park for me these days. I don't need anything crazy performance-wise. Being in the mid-atlantic i mostly ride locally at Liberty/Whitetail/Roundtop with 1 or 2 trips outside the local area per season.

had non-release in the past and thought about going back to them, but i really like the safety and step-in convenience of release bindings.

Hi Erin, you can only use the specific bindings that the particular risers you have were designed for. You can reach out to Jeff at Spruce for more information. I believe the risers you have were made before the current edition of the risers so Tyrolia bindings won't work with them. All binding manufacturers use different hole patterns and the risers are made to match up with these holes.

Jeff from Spruce emailed me and said:

"Her riser will likely mount the current entry level bindings from Rossignol and Dynastar. If she takes her skis, risers and boots to a shop that sells Rossignol/Dynastar bindings that have the same screw mounting pattern, they can mount and adjust the bindings." However, a shop may choose not to do this if they are unfamiliar with how risers work. He also said "I can get her new bindings if she wants to send the old ones to me". Or, of course, "she can buy new bindings and risers from skiboardsonline.com"

All binding manufacturers use different hole patterns and the risers are made to match up with these holes.

That's the things you need to be careful about. If you're going to buy bindings and install them yourself, you need to check the riser's pattern and see if it matches the bindings you have in mind. Particularly the front holes pattern. I've seen two (edit: correction - three) types of patters on the risers : front holes form two parallel lines - these match Tyrolia/Head bindings. Second pattern forms a sort of triangle, spear-fish shape: you have a number of frontmost holes, middle of the riser position, followed by the lateral, side of the riser holes, to fit bindings that use three screws for the front part. I think older Tyrolia or rather Salomon used this pattern, and some of the relatively recent Salomon bingings (I have a 10yo pair) match it as well.
There is also a third riser pattern that mixes those two styles.

Thank you all for the info and input! And thanks Greco for reaching out to Jeff on my behalf. My gear is still at REI because the boards needed a tune, so I can't see what the hole pattern is on my risers until I get them back in a couple days.

Greco, are the TX10s getting restocked soon on the SBOL shop? I think the attacks are more than i'd need, and the TX10s are showing as sold out.

spruce has these on their website which I'm also considering. I like the extra safety features. I rarely fall, but having spent time in physical therapy, anything that helps keep me uninjured is a plus!

Current update is that I ended up buying new risers with the Tyrolia SX10s from SBOL because looking around locally, new bindings + mounting fees were going to be about the same price, plus the convenience of not having to go out around the holidays. It looked like the local resorts were going to be opening soon and I wanted to be ready to go as quickly as possible. Also got the new Stickies with the bindings because why not Should be great for ice coast riding! REI did my binding check today, so now all I need is snow... Turns out 2/3 local resorts did open right before xmas, and then closed again after we got a bunch of rain and warm weather

Thanks to Greco for the great service as always, and to everyone for your helpful replies! I may yet take my old risers to the local ski shop and see about getting new bindings for them too - their website shows they have Look NX 11 bindings that will hopefully fit the mount holes on my old risers. Since I have 3 sets of boards now, a second set of bindings may be nice to have.
