  • How bad is this repair?

Hi guys, need your opinion about this fix.

The problem is that an insert broke and the repair was bad. The function of the threaded insert is perfect, but it is not enough in the part down. It does not affect its function in the snow at all.

so old insert was drilled out and a new insert placed? is there a pic from the top? looks like yellow paint was mixed with epoxy for repair? i mean, it looks pretty shotty but if it works and holds secure, then i guess it's fine. that tiny little patch wont really make a difference in riding I don't think

Unfortunately I don't have a top photo, the boards are not mine. That was what I understood as well. New insert placed in.

are you looking to purchase? Make sure it is an actual insert and not just like a binding freedom or something. from the looks of the size it appears to be the size of an insert but i'd confirm first what type, etc.

I've done way worse repairs on core shots! A few seasons ago I had a pair of Spliffs on life support that required weekly epoxy and ptex treatments, and eventually threw a 10 cm chunk of edge (major rock damage, no flaw in the original board). One of them is my address sign at the end of the driveway now.

As long as the repair is watertight, you should be fine. Water getting into the wood core is going to cause problems over time.
