Buying skiboards in the UK

17.5% plus £8 clearance fees I believe.

I know this doesn't work out, but that is because on the declaration on the outside of the box it was listed as being "2 mini snow skis", each worth £50. Add a bit of shipping to that, take 17.5% of it, add £8 and you should end up with something like £26. That's without bindings.

Thats great to hear Greco, I was going to enquire about that myself with you as I own a business myself and I learnt that if you use private couriers like UPS, FedEx etc etc then you always get import taxes on the door.

However and as you (G) are aware, if you use public shipping methods like USPS and Royal Mail here in the UK and vey importantly you mark the parcel below the value of £36 (Say £10 to be safe) and as a 'Gift' then a customer should not ever be charged any import duties. Even if you don't mark it as a 'gift' but mark it as £10 value then it is highly unlikely they will charge any duties on it, and even if they did it would be a small amount compared to say the VAT they would charge on a parcel marked at a value of £400.

99% of Stores in the US use UPS to ship things internationally and won't mark as a low value and/or a gift either, so I don't deal with the US anymore, however now that I know that this store caters to the international crowd I will most likely use this store to buy some equipment from, which is great

I ship hundreds of items to the US each week from my own personal business and I always use Royal Mail (and USPS when the parcel reaches the USA) and mark my parcels at a low value (usually about £5) and none of my customers in the states or anywhere else outside the UK ever get charged any customs and so their happy and so am I.

Just wanted to get that off my chest as I used get charged loads on duties from UPS back in the day for my aggressive skating stuff I would get from the states and it really really annoyed me, as you can tell I still have issues with it

Just to clarify... importing skiboards from the USA does not have import duty. It has VAT. So you will pay VAT on the cost of the boards at whatever the current rate is. You then have to pay a 'release' fee levied by customs to cover their admin, even though their admin is supposedly already covered by other taxation. If UPS, they will then rape you for another admin fee for handling the transaction. If USPS (as used by skiboardsonline.com), the UK handling will be done by Parcelforce who dont make this final admin charge.

As of right now, VAT (sales tax in the US) is 20%. Yes thats right folks, your dear Government wants one fifth of your money just to allow you to buy something. So if you buy a pair of skiboards that cost £200, VAT will be £40. Release fee will be around £12, so your extra charges will be around £52, plus whatever shipping costs. If you buy from a site that uses UPS, you can add approx another £10 to that!

Yep they charge VAT on imports but if the value on the declaration is low and there's no invoice plastered to the front of the parcel showing the real amount and no company name on the address then they can only charge the VAT on the amount the sender declared on the postage declaration form.

So yeah the purchase can be $300 but if the only value on the parcel is $20 then the worst they can do is charge you 20% of the $20, which is nothing, and they don't charge on parcels that are lower than a certain amount anyway (in the UK I think its £36 import value or less and then they don't tax it).

I can see that some of you guys are from the UK and wondered if there are any UK dealers yet or anyone having a clear out?

This will be my first season trying Skiboards (if i can get hold of some in time)

I have a history of full length skis, short skis and a few runs on blades. I currently ride a 120 short ski so ideally looking for something 90-110 as i am quite a tall guy, preferably with release bindings. I would say i am a fairly competent skiier, skiing reds and most blacks. Looking to move a bit more into powder, nothing to serious but after attempts on my current set up failing miserably last season, skiboards seem to have the length i like with the width i need

It's more a case of what do you have, i am not looking to spend mega bucks as i want to make sure i get on with them but not after freebies either.

I have a pair of Condors you can have, no bindings. Condition great. Don't want anything for them. You would need bindings. They will only take 40*40 mount bindings, you can't direct mount ski bindings. If you have the skills you could make a pair of wooden risers and screw on some used ski bindings, very cheap, or maybe you would need to buy bindings, either fixed or a Riser set up, more expensive. Very few of us have spare bindings because with the 40*40 system we have one or two sets and swap them from board to board.

Yes, meet at Xscape. I am actually in Suffolk so not that far but regularly visit Xscape. The Spruce Riser is the only one I know of.
