  • New Ski Design could change the nature of Skiing ?

roommates stumbled across this online today thought it was kinda interesting...
    http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20090...ure-of-skiing/
that was the story that I found then I found another on with way more pictures.....http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/03/0...lly-like-this/

so what do you think? it makes sense that the more edge you have in contact with the slope it will make it more stable for sharper high speed carves but I dont know it I can see it working as well because of the added weight

neat concept - if it works for longboards no reason it couldn't work on our skiboards...

of course in my experience more moving pieces = more possible failure points

I don't know. Something doesn't sit right with me on this one. Obviously, a creative, forward thinking idea but my knee jerk feeling is it will work exactly where it says it works - on a race course. But, I'd be very surprised if this idea were accepted by ski racing governing bodies. Neat though

Some of the comments on the article mention that more edge area will decrease the bite because you have less force per inch of edge. I have no idea how accurate that is.

It appears to be an extremely integrated binding system so I would guess the flex would be really soft. I don't like them...too much technology in something that should be as simple as a piece of wood with a sintered base some edges and a top sheet covered with triaxal fiberglass. There is no reason we need to advance skis to look like this, we just need to the design advancing in the basic areas like shape, flex, and binding integration.

I disagree. While this particular product may or may not work better than the current ski design, I see no reason to believe that skis will never or should never progress past what we have now.

Learn your sticks and use them right. I don't think this is meant for people who actually know how to get out there.

I'll stick to my KTPs, thanks.
