Have and have had numerous bikes.

Right now, not much for the street. just an HD 883.

            For the dirt

Honda crf 450r, crf 250x, crf 100 for my wife.

If I hit the lotto and can but some space will get a crotch rocket or two and a custom Service Honda crf 500 2 stroke...you can only get em custom now due to the pollution laws...they are about $8000.

The biggest dirtbike I've ridden was a CR250 and that thing was pretty quick. I'd imagine a 500 would be ridiculous to ride.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming... "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!!"

Yes, ridiculous. When I was a kid the only thing my parents would get me was a 8 HP Yamaha dirt bike. I weighed over 200 pounds and it didn't provide much excitement. Such deprivation made me HP crazy in later life. Also loved the sound of ear cracking 2 strokes. Although my 450 thumper has a nice mellow sound to it that my neighbors hate. When I do wheelies down the street to warm it up to put on the trailer they call the police on me.

Yeah, I had heard that the new 4-strokes were rather loud. I'm very fortunate in that I live out in the country where I can fire up my track bike without really bothering anyone.

So I'm assuming that with your HP cravings you'd be looking at at least a liter bike if you get a crotchrocket? Looking at your general brand tendencies, I'd guess the 1000RR might be an option.

1000 area? Yes, that is correct...something with good wheelie ability.

My HD 883 is sluggish as hell. I don't ride it much anyway. Ride my dirt bikes more.

Fifteen bikes? Yes, in the old days I would have had many more bikes.

But everything your own takes a little peace / piece of you.

So inner peace limits what I can own now a days.

I joined the simple living movement in '96 and cut back on some of my demands.

The bikes actually are a little excessive for me, but they all have 'reasons for being' so there is no getting around it. I guess if I could only have one bike I would get a CR250R and gear it down, put a heavier flywheel on it and slightly smaller diameter tires. But luckily for me I can have a few bike options when it comes to the dirt.

The CRF450R is fun and exhilarating, a great wheelie machine, but not mild mannered for woods and overheats in second in the mud. I geared it down, but it is way too fast for woods.

The CRF250X is OK generally for woods, but not that fun as the CRF450R or even a CR250R. It is not fun in treacherous terrain when you get stuck with it, although the electric start is a plus. Will probably put on a heavier flywheel down the road to help chugabilty with the 250X.

The CRF100F is good for my wife and I use it to scout out treacherous terrain when making new trails. There are hundreds of acres of woodlands near me that I 'adopted' and build trails on and the 100 comes in handy. Although the skinny knobby tires get stuck in the mud sometimes. I geared it down, so it pulls like a mini tractor, but it is the least fun to ride if you like speed and power.

I also use the 100 in my backyard trials course, which for a regular non trials bike, it excels at.

If you have never seen trials riding here are some links. Although I do not do this level of trials riding.

I work with a guy who does some trials riding, and I have to say it is incredibly impressive what those guys do with a bike. He showed me some pictures from a few competitions and I couldn't believe some of the routes the guys were going through.

Fookisan, if you're serious about getting a CR250, a friend of mine is thinking of selling his. Doesn't sound like you're really in the market right now, but I figured I'd mention is just in case.
