As far as this Bond movie or that Bond actor following closest to what the books intended, I couldn't care less. I never read any of the books and never will. Each actor brought something different to the part, and each movie was entertaining in its own way. I like all the Bond movies, but my pick for the worst one is Never Say Never Again. It was a weak attempt by Sean Connery to reclaim his role as James Bond. The people voted, and Roger Moore won the battle.
To me the Daniel Craig movies don't really seem like traditional Bond movies. They seem like stand alone movies. Casino Royale was really surprisingly good. I thought it would be a major let down, but it wasn't. Quantum of Solice on the other hand was a disappointment, especially after Casino being so good. I'm hoping Skyfall is much better.
Here's a little not-so-well-known bit of Bond trivia. Roger Moore actually played Bond for the first time in 1964 and not 1973.
