Tom , we will make every effort to ride at Sierra on Wednesday even if it takes a while to get there as I know folks have already gotten tickets. Also the riding there is major fun in the trees when it is snowing and more wind protected then the other resorts. If the road is open , even with chain controls we will try to make it there . Usually the main highway out of south lake tahoe , highway 50 is in good shape even in the snow with Caltrans working hard to keep it open. That is the road we take to Sierra at Tahoe. The most likely change might be to substitute another day at Heavenly for Kirkwood on Tuesday as travelling up and over Carson pass on highway 88 to Kirkwood in a snowstorm is misery.

One of the problems with the weather predictions for Shredfest is that there is a collision of cold air with tropical moisture coming in from the pacific and no one knows exactly how much moisture will come in , there could only be a little snow . monday through wednesday or a signficant amount we will just have to wait and see ! Different forecasters are predicting very different scenarios..

It depends on what kind of ticket you bought, but generally speaking the answer is no, once you buy the ticket it is yours, no matter what. That is how they can give such a deep discount, by buying guaranteed date specific tickets in bulk.

I didn’t see it this year, but they used to offer tickets with a premium that allowed you transfer them. This year that did offer “insurance” at an extra cost. I bought that for Tracey and I just in case of injuries, but it may have covered road closure as well?

The only way to know for sure for your individual ticket is to call them. Hope it works out for you.
        Just these, nothing else !

Lifttopia does not refund tickets for any reason at all. Even if the resort was closed for some reason you can’t get your ticket refunded.

For those folks meeting at Northstar on Sunday , you may want to get to the parking lots early. This weekend has been crazy busy at all the ski resorts because of the nicer weather and new snow . Northstar closed all parking by 958am today .
Hopefully by Monday at Heavenly most of the crowd will have departed and we will have much less crowded conditions.

                  THE LATEST FORECAST:

                  - Sunday we have clouds with some peeks of sun. High winds with ridgetop winds gusting to 70+ mph affecting upper mountain lifts. Highs in the 20's on the upper mountains, and 30's at lake level. We could see a few snow showers move through into Sunday night with a dusting to an inch possible on the mountains.

                  - The moisture streaming into northern CA will push south into Tahoe Monday afternoon through Thursday morning. Expect heavy snow and high winds through the period. We could see 2-6 feet on the mountains over the 3 days, and 1.5 - 4 feet at lake level. Strong ridgetop winds up to 70+ mph. Snow levels fluctuating between 5,000-6,500 feet before falling below 5,000 feet Wednesday night.

Good luck everybody and enjoy the fresh powder if you can!
