As easy as skiboards are on groomers, they really put your skills to the test off the trails. The demand on your fore/aft balance really does take it's toll in bumps, trees, crud and steeps. The classic 100 cm, stiff, cambered skiboard is a challenge for all but the youngest of legs off the groomers.
I'll keep my Jades and Slapdashes for groomer days, but I need the extra support of the 120s in the trees from now on. I could go longer but I don't want to loose that feeling of fun and freedom I get from the shorties.Just these, nothing else !

Let me explain why I even gave skis another try. The last few times that I have been out on skiboards I haven't enjoyed myself. Since Tahoe hasn't been getting much snow and it's a continuous warm/freeze cycle at the resorts, conditions have been difficult to deal with on skiboards. It's either icy, slushy, or a combo of both throughout the day. Ice isn't fun, but for me slush is even worse. The last time Jack and I were at Heavenly together I had a miserable time. It was a slush fest. I was on the RCs. I kept bogging down and feeling like I was going to constantly face plant. The skiers seemed to have no problems in the slush. That's what I experienced yesterday on skis. I never bogged down, and by afternoon the snow was mighty slushy. Being on skis made a world of difference.
So here it is. Most likely the only time I would choose skis over skiboards is in spring conditions. What I prefer over anything is riding in the trees and bumps, and skiboards will always be my weapon of choice for this. When conditions are ideal, that's where I spend most of the day. I would like to try some rockered skis in powder to see what that is like. At times I might start carrying poles when using skiboards. I've been against this in the past and thought it was just wrong. At some of the resorts (like Heavenly) many of the lifts are uphill, and it's a major pain trying to climb up to them. Poles would help immensely. We'll see what the future holds.Boards/Bindings:

Sempai.... now you just need to try a pair of short, fatty, rockered skis in 165 - 170 cm (K2 Hellbents, Rossi Super 7s, Icelantic Keepers, Surface New Lifes, Armada JJs).
They are worlds different than what you just demoed. Even more stability and maneuverability than on-piste or standard fare all-mountain skis and give up very little in hardpack carving.
I get some tip flap on mine at high speeds on the groomers, but it rarely affects the ride unless I'm really hauling ass... except it can get in my head if I look down and see those long rockered sections flapping around like crazy.Skis: Armada JJs, Armada Magic Js and Icelantic Keepers
Bindings: Marker Griffon, Look Pivot
Full Tilt Boots
Past: Revel8 Tanshos, KTPs, Revolts, DLPs, Condors; Spruce Raptors, 120s, Sherpas
