  • Protective gear anyone?

    Hey everybody,

So I know helmets and protective gear don't look cool... but I wear them. I wear a helmet and wrist gaurds under my gloves, I use a football girdle that protects my tailbone, hip bones, and knees. My fear of injury outweighs my desire to be fashionable on the mountain- although I don't wear any protective gear that's visible on the outside besides my helmet.

What protective gear do you guys wear? I was chatting with a friend about it and his impression was that very few skiboarders wear protective gear at all. With the influx of injuries this past year, I would hope we'd look into it.

I wonder if Greco would be interested in putting some protective gear under the "protection" portion of his site. I know we can buy protective gear on other sites- but I'd prefer keeping money in the "family." Keep SBOL funded instead of other snowboard and ski sites (they already have a lot of people buying from them)

Just curious as to your thoughts on the matter. I saw that thread about injuries and it just reinforced my concerns.

Also- I've got a hook-up with Fox, and they've got really extensive protective gear for motocross. I was thinking about buying a setup and wearing it under my jacket Shell instead of a warm liner. Anybody every try this? Does it limit your movement too much?

Contacted my hookup- I can probably get a group-buy discount on top of my discount if there was a larger order- that's if people were interested in the motorcycle protection I was going to get. I will post some pics for you all.

I've got my helmet, and that's all I use, though I might be throwing on my one wrist protector under my gloves if I session rails for a day.

Dude, that looks like the armor from Crysis. Can I wear it on the outside of my jacket?

I don't have any yet, but you bet I'll be buying a helmet! (Today, actually, at the Ski Chalet Dilly in Chantilly)

After that, chances are good that I'll go ahead and get wrist and/or tailbone protection. I've broken double-digits worth of bones in my life along with a ton of other injuries, so I'm starting to think it'd be best to play it safe now that I'm "aging".

Outside the Jacket? I guess you could if you got one large enough. I've never seen them over a jacket, they're mostly used for motocross- and so it's hot out- and the riders are trying to stay cool- so it's usually over just a t-shirt or something. You'd have to get your measurements over your jacket to get the right size I would assume.

I've got helmet, wrist protector, Skeletool jacket and pants.
I found skeletool through this forum (someone, i think mark, was selling his gear)
I took out the shoulder pads since they make you look like you have a football gear on. but this jacket and pants saved my ribs and hips when i was falling on the rails. it makes you little chubby but i think it's worthy.

Nice- though the Crysis armor would be a bit overkill. I think the dianese ones would suit you better if you're looking for the fully armored look-

I like it, very similar to what I had in mind. Do you find it restricts your movement much? They're on sale for around 100 bucks- which is good. But I'm looking at around 40 bucks for the Fox ones.

Cool, I think I'll go for it- I've seen JPARK's videos, and you don't look like it's slowing you down any
