  • Spruce Backcountry Rigs Available

Jeff Singer has just put up the Osprey and the Sherpa complete backcountry rigs on his web page and they are in stock and available for purchase . These rigs are absolutely fantastic for backcountry touring and riding and also double as superb resort set ups. They are compatible with both regular downhill ski boots as well as specialized alpine touring boots. The binding is regular resort type binding mounted on a bar that releases for touring and then locks down for descent. The binding is also provided with ski crampons for climbing in icy conditions. You can buy your own skins or for an extra cost Jeff will supply a custom cut pair of skins for you .
Here is a picture of the rigs.

I have personally used both the Sherpa and the Osprey with the Ambition touring binding /spruce backcountry riser in all kinds of backcountry conditions and find both rigs stellar with their own particular personalities. Other folks have also used and enjoyed the rigs in the backcountry as well and found them fantastic.
Here is a link to Jeff's web page with product details .
Here is a link to my review of the touring riser used with the Spruce Sherpa.

Jack -- You probably covered this in another thread but can you tell us how the binding attaches to the skiboard? Does it attach to 4x10 / 4x4 inserts or something else like the demo binding Jeff is doing. Could it be used to carry a demo binding? I am not a big backcountry rider but would love a demountable release demo binding.
    Boards:

    2013 Spruce "CTS" 120s

    2016 RVL8 Spliffs - 109cm
    2008 RVL8 Revolt "City" - 105cm

I can partially answer this. With the bc setup it's a riser flipped upside down with the bindings attached to the riser. The riser is attached to the board using the 4x10 inserts like usual.
      Boards/Bindings:
      2013 Spruce Sherpas w/Tyrolia Peak 11s
      2023 Spruce Stingers w/Tyrolia Peak 11s
      2015 RVL8 Blunt XLs w/Tyrolia Attack 13s
      2020 RVL8 Sticky Icky Ickys w/Tyrolia SX 10s

      Boots:
      Salomon X-Pro 80

Past boards: Salomon Snowblades, Line MNPs 89 & 98 cm, Five-Os, Bullets, Jedis, Spruce 120s, LE 125s, Ospreys, Crossbows
Summit 110s, Nomads, Jades, RVL8 ALPs, BWPs, KTPs, Tanshos, Rockets, DLPs, Blunts, Condors, RCs, Revolts, Spliffs

I just re-read Jack's original post on these and can see the risers and screws in the pics in that post. I could not see them in the pics above and thought it might be something different in the final production model. I guess this would not work for demo bindings and the center section of the binding would cover the 4x10 / 4x4 holes and with this rig the fact that the binding flips up allows for access to the screws.

It could work great for a demo binding like the Attack 13 Demo - because there is no center rail. The adjustable heel and adjustable toe are separate parts. . .

Do you know if it is the same 2.5" wide aluminum channel? Seems like it must be wider to fit the wider heel and toe adjustable rails. . . I know the Attack 13 Demo bindings I have are too wide to fit in the current riser flipped upside down. . .

Sorry, I do not know. Sounds like a question for Jeff.
