  • Pasturecountry Skiboarding

Getting prepped for Jack’s backcountry group at shredfest, I’ve been hoping we would get some snow here locally so I could try out gear right here on the farm. We were supposed to get a foot this week, and they did elsewhere in Missouri, but no, not here. Instead, we had an ice storm with a dusting of snow on top. What the heck, I figured it’s worth a try anyway. We have a “hill pasture” that’s steep enough and the only hazards are grass. Here’s the view from the top of the hill pasture:

I used a brand new pair of Sherpas rigged with skins and Fritschi touring bindings mounted on my own shop-made custom riser, torture tested by none other than the original man with the plan himself (Jack). Here’s the set-up:

Here’s is the view upon reaching the “summit”. This stunning landmark is known as “the old metal gate on top of the hill”.

Preparing for the ride back to the house on the “Rural Snowcat”:

I’ll tell you what, if you've never used this sort of gear before you really should give it a try. It’s pretty cool. You just stomp right on up the hill, just like they say. More of you all, especially folks in snowy parts of the country with easy access to local hilly grades should try it. If a guy did this every day, he might actually get fit, and not be miserable trying to keep up with Jack's group at shredfest!

Haha, very nice, Bill. I actually thought of trying something similar during our last major storm. I'd have had to go out on the road though, and I didn't like my chances against errant cars that might have been sliding down the hill.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming... "WOW! WHAT A RIDE!!"
