  • How to lock??

    Okay so...

My wife just received her new Tanshos, which came with Risers and Head bindings as such, only with brakes:
    http://www.skiboardsonline.com/Merch...ruce_projr.jpg

We have a retractable cable lock, but I can't find any hole in the board/bindings that I could string the lock through. Last year I got my Roxy bindings which have large holes on the release handles, so I could string the cable lock through there. The Heads don't have this.

Any suggestions on where to string a lock through? She has brakes attached for now, which do provide a very insecure hole to insert a lock, but eventually she might want to switch to leashes and after that there will be no options for a cable lock.

...Which raises another problem--how do you attach leashes if there is no hole?

If you're extra careful you could drill a hole.

Most of us use TWO retractable cable locks. Put the first one round the boards in the middle with the boards base to base and tighten it, then put the second one through the resulting loop and secure it round your street furniture. Good deterrent that way too as there are two locks to deal with.
Hith regard to leashes, drill a small hole in back of the riser somewhere and attach with cable ties.

If that lock is retractable, what would prevent someone from pressing the retract button and loosening the loop?

When you close the lock and spin the combination dials then the retract button locks too, preventing anyone from lengthening the loop again.

Hmm ok I hope so! When I get home tonight I'll try out my locks and see if that really works. Sucks that I may have to buy 2 more locks now. lol

              This was my solution:

I got some shark wire and some crimps from my local fishing shop, and threaded a small loop of wire through the little hole that's already in the heel clip. I crimped the loop closed around the leash with two crimps, and then sealed both with epoxy. I then sealed them with electrical insulation tape.

The leash is now permanently attached to the binding, and there is a nice loop on each board to put a lock through.

I know you could get through this in 2 secs with a pair of wire cutters - but the same is true of every single ski lock I've seen, not to mention the leashes.

The fishing shop gave me 100m of shark wire for free, so if you want to give this a try, I can post you a couple of bits of wire.

              Take care

I eventually drilled holes in my risers behind the heel piece, but before that I looped the lock cable thru the heel lever just as Scribbler looped his shark wire.

The problem is, my heel clip has NO loop!

It looks like my lock doesn't do this. Locking the lock does nothing to stop anyone from pressing the button to lengthen the loop. I guess it's not a very good lock!

I agree! Though you could use that lock to wrap around the middle of the skiboards as described by Valmorel and buy another lock with a locking retract button to secure the bundle to a solid object.

Going back to your original post and the question about where to attach the leashes. The linked photo seems to show a leash attached. I wonder where that is threaded?

Hmmmm.... in the photo it looks like there is a small gap in the heel piece. I didn't even notice it had leashes attached! Well that might at least solve the leash problem, but it's probably too small a gap to thread a cable ski lock through. I'll explore the other options for the lock, i.e. a better lock to create a loop, or drilling into the Risers.

Another tip to help prevent your skiboards being stolen when you are in the restaurant/cafe is to mix up the pairs of yours and your wife's skiboards. If you give her one of your Rumspringas and take one of her Tanshos then you lock up the mismatched pairs of boards in two different places then few thieves would bother to search all around to match up the pairs. They would also have to cut two separate locks.

I've heard of that technique.... inconvenient to find 2 separate places to lock up, but hey, if it works...
