  • SnOasis - Europe's largest snowdome now likely to be built

The SnOasis Snowdome project has been cancelled (March 2024)
Please see my post at the end of this thread

The UK government has indicated that it is "minded to approve" the building of Europe's largest indoor ski slope, measuring 415 metres long by 70 metres wide, with a 100 metre vertical drop.

If you read the eadt link from above, you will note some negative comment from one Dave Stevens. I would like to make it clear that this is not THIS Dave Stevens! What a stinky coincidence. I totally support this project that will bring 365 skiing practically to within walking distance of my home.

Having a snowdome near home is great

Skiboarding in August at -3ºC while outside everything is melting... priceless!

415m long... wow! Mine is 250m long i think...

what i don't get though, is why they're building it there.

people north of london can now ski at milton keynes, manchester, leeds and the other one, newcastle or something. but us southeners don't have anything.

we had to drive 2 hrs yesterday to get to the snowdome and we were lucky the traffic was good.

they should build one down south.

anyway its defiantly a good thing to have a huge snowdome, i just wish it was nearer
all the gear and relatively little idea.

I seem to remember that someone tried and failed to get planning permission to build a snowdome in a disused quarry in Sussex a few years ago. May even have been the same people who are backing SnOasis? IMHO I doubt that there are any brown field sites South of London where you could build a snowdome.

Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre will be opening next April.

That'll be a shorter drive for you wont it? Still North of London but not as far as MK.

                    Get in!

Wonder how those cardigan wearing misery-mongers over at snoasis concern are feeling right now.

Ok I'm nowhere near the place but it looks like it'll be worth a trip down for a visit.

SnOasis safe despite failure of backer

Latest info from the EADT website

"THE company behind the SnOasis winter sports development said yesterday that work on the complex would go ahead as planned despite the collapse of an Irish investment firm connected with the project."

                            More Delays

Latest Info from the EADT website
It appears that someone within the British government has screwed up the wording of the SnOasis planning consent.
It may hold up work starting for another two years.
The developers are seeking a meeting with government ministers to sort things out.
