  • The Riser That Changes Everything

And here it is, the Spruce Pro Prime Plus

    http://spruceskis.weebly.com/pro-pri...s-binding.html

It is well known that I don't like slop in the binding interface between my boots and my bindings. Others disagree but hey! Consequently in recent years I have been using the rock solid fixed type binding or a variant thereof. This Pro Prime changes all that.
It all comes down to the toe piece. This toe piece has hugely wide wings for maximum possible leverage, but more importantly, it is fully adjustable for height, so the boot can be fitted with zero rock. Just look how much leverage there is.

You can actually tune this binding by increasing/decreasing the slop (or not) in the toe piece.

The level of control is astonishing. The equal of a fixie. Here they are installed on my Blunts

Note non standard heel piece as my Riser is drilled for Rossi.

I have mine set at DIN 9 but the way the toe piece is built hold down is not dependant on DIN.

    BRILLIANT!

I love the look of the binding but hate how much extra riser sticks out in front of the toe piece. I've never seen that on any other Spruce combo. It's probably because the binding toe piece is so short, right? They look so much better mounted on your riser drilled for Rossi.
    Boards/Bindings:
    2013 Spruce Sherpas w/Tyrolia Peak 11s
    2023 Spruce Stingers w/Tyrolia Peak 11s
    2015 RVL8 Blunt XLs w/Tyrolia Attack 13s
    2020 RVL8 Sticky Icky Ickys w/Tyrolia SX 10s

    Boots:
    Salomon X-Pro 80

Past boards: Salomon Snowblades, Line MNPs 89 & 98 cm, Five-Os, Bullets, Jedis, Spruce 120s, LE 125s, Ospreys, Crossbows

Actually I just cut off the excess as I am in total agreement with you!

I used this setup with the Blunts yesterday and WOW ... these bindings are a whooooole different level. As for cutting off the excess .... is it as simple as it sounds just cutting off the excess? Would cutting off to much hurt the stability of the riser?

I was thinking of just using the toe as a stencil and just cut off there.

Yup, that's all I did. Didn't even take the toe off the riser :-)

Can the Pro Prime Plus Attack be purchased with leashes instead of brakes?

Can the Pro Prime Plus with Tyrolia Attack 13 release bindings, be easily de-braked so that leashes can be used instead?

Note, that I use the term de-braked to indicate that the brake arms are removed but the plastic (and metal?) part that the boot sole sits down onto is replaced so that the binding still functions as it should.

Removing the brake arms looks 'challenging'

Thanks valmorel. May have to use brakes and leashes then? Belt and braces!

I wonder if Jeff has any further thoughts on the subject?

As you know valmorel, with brakes, after a fall, one usually ends up below one's skiboards. On occasion, if the slope is a bit icy, it can be difficult to walk back up to retrieve the boards. Hence my interest in leashes.

Will cutting excess cause any issues regarding strength or integrity of the riser? Your set-up looks really sharp with the trimmed excess.

No. Its just as if the Riser were a bit shorter, that's all.

I trimmed the excess on the front my risers with a hacksaw and filed/smoothed the edge with a dremel. Looks nice. I will try to post a pic after I install the bindings on my RCondors.
